The History of Glydon & Guess

On the 14th June 1940, Violet Guess and Thomas Glydon opened the doors of Glydon & Guess in Crown Passage, Kingston as clock and watch specialists. Servicing, repairing and selling a range of quality time pieces, they soon became a well respected, reliable business. In 1973 Violet's son Roy, who was trained as a first class watch maker during his national service, took over the business. With his wife, Pamela, he introduced jewellery to the shop and transformed Glydon & Guess into a thriving retail jewellers.

5 years later Roy's son, Andrew, joined the business having trained in jewellery making, jewellery restoration and gemology. Andrew introduced vintage and antique jewellery to the business and continued to build on the family's heritage. The father and son partnership worked together for many years, moving the business to the current location of 14 Apple Market.
